He never used any violent means to carry on his movement. He made a famous speech in Washington D.C., which begins with the famous phrase, "I have a dream...." When I heard this recording, I was really impressed. Unfortunately he was killed before his dream was realized. I think, however, his ideal is sublime and should never be forgotten.
